What's In My Skin Care: Rosa Damascena

The Beauty Benefits Of Rosa Damascena

For ages, roses have been considered to be one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. Since ancient time roses have been symbol of femininity and purity and played central role in many stories, legends and ancient myths. Nevertheless, roses are not just pretty flowers – their numerous therapeutic benefits make them one of the most preferred ingredients among skin care manufacturers.

There are two main types of products obtained from rose, that are used for the formulation of skin care – rose essential oil and rose hydrosol (also known as hydrolat). The hydrosol is by-product from the steam distillation of the oil and even though it’s diluted, compared to the oil, it works wonders for the skin when applied topically.

Today we’ll be talking about one particular type of roses that we, at La Mav, treasure highly. After many years of research, we’ve proven numerous times the efficacy of Rosa Damascena as skin care ingredient and we would like to tell you why we love it so much. Trust us – there is more to roses than their gorgeous flowers and lovely scent!

Reduces and Controls Inflammations

More than 100 naturally occurring compounds (phenolic compounds being the most abundant) can be found in rose extract, some of which are believed to have antiseptic properties. Because of its rich chemical composition, Rose Damascena distillate (also known as rose water) possesses the power to counteract inflammation, by suppressing the growth of certain types of bacteria. By controlling inflammation, Rose water allows the skin to recover faster and restores its integrity.

Rose Damascena distillate has mild astringent properties and works great as toner for  acne-prone skin that also presents sings of sensitivity, dryness or dehydration. Rose water refreshes the skin, without leaving it feeling tight and stripped of its natural oils (common problem that occurs with the frequent use of alcohol containing toners). Rose water is great addition to  homemade facial cleansers, especially when combined with  Jojoba oil.

Speaking of toners, infused with Rose water...

La Mav's Rose Hydrating Mist is a gentle alcohol-free toner, designed to re-balance your skin’s pH and stimulate the natural radiance with its refreshing and revitalizing properties. Formulated with Rosa damascena (Rose), Jasmine and Geranium essential oils for a calm and soothing effect, the Rose Hydrating Mist is perfect for normal, dry, and highly sensitive skin, helping to reduce pore size appearance. Bisabolol and Pro-Vitamin B5 help moisturize and hydrate while removing surface impurities and toxins, as well as help prevent the visible signs of aging.
