What's In My Skin Care: Hyaluronic Acid

How Does Hyaluronic Acid Benefit Your Skin?

Though we are becoming more and more skeptical about what the beauty industry is trying to sell to us, there are certain ingredients that are proven to work – ingredient that deliver real results and visible improvement in terms of skin firmness, elasticity and integrity. One of these skin care heroes (probably I won’t surprise you) is hyaluronic acid. Today, we’ll try to answer several questions - why is it so popular, how does it work and what results to expect from it? Stay on this post, if you want to find our more about hyaluronic acid and how it can help you “stop the clock”.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance normally presented in your skin (primarily in the connective tissue) and it’s one of the substances that makes it elastic and maintains its integrity. Nevertheless, with the age, the natural synthesis of hyaluronic acid declines, therefore its level drops.

In the skin care industry, the most commonly used and effective form of hyaluronic acid, applied to replace the naturally occurring one, is Sodium Hyaluronate. Sodium Hyaluronate has smaller molecular weight (compared to hyaluronic acid) and is especially penetrative.

When used in high concentrations Sodium Hyaluronate is very thick and can not penetrate the skin barrier, which is why higher concentrations, between 3-5%, are usually used for injections. The industry standard for hyaluronic acid for creams, gels and lotions is up to 2%, because when a product has 2% HA in it (or higher) it tends to ball up on the skin and it doesn't absorb at all. Thanks to the advances in biochemistry, nowadays it is possible to obtain 100% natural and vegan (synthesized through bacterial fermentation) low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid that can actually pass the epidermis and reach the deeper layers of the dermis, where it can do what it has to do.

The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

When it comes to having young and healthy-looking skin keeping your cell hydrated is essential. And by hydrated I don’t refer to drinking 2 liters of water per day – external hydration matters just as much.

La Mav Hyaluronic Acid Hydro-Max Serum is an ultra-hydrating serum designed to give dry and dehydrated skin a powerful shield to lock in moisture and restore glowing softness, comfort and radiance. We've taken Hyaluronic Acid and combined it with Arganiaspinosa extract for a visible skin transformation: skin texture appears plumper and healthy.

Same rule applies to slowing down the aging process – to keep wrinkles at bay, you have to make sure your skin gets all the water it needs (and also make sure it keeps it!). Just like dehydrated plants lose turgor, when your cells lack water they are not as voluptuous as they normally should be which makes your skin appear... well, not its best. How can hyaluronic acid help? Thanks to its water binding properties, hyaluronic acid doesn’t allow the H2O molecules to leave the skin cells! By restoring and maintaining the fluid levels, hyaluronic acid preserves skin’s resilience, pliability and fullness and gives it a fresh dewy look.

La Mav Hyaluronan Daily Moisture Cream is an ultra hydrating daily crème that delivers a radiant and visibly plump glow which makes it ideal for skin that is lacking luster and is prone to dryness, fine lines and/or dehydration. Because it’s formulated with Argan oil and Hyaluronic Acid, this exquisite daily use crème maintains hydration and moisture levels while also reducing visible signs of aging. The soothing powers of Aloe Vera leaf juice and Acai Pulp oil help to promote a healthy, fresh and radiant complexion so your skin will look its best, every day! Perfectly formulated for dry skin and works in synergy with other La Mav products in the  Ultra Hydration Range.

Another super impressive property of hyaluronic acid is its ability to boosts collagen synthesis by binding to a specific cell receptor (the glycoprotein CD44 to be exact, but let’s not bore you with science). Improving and maintaining collagen synthesis is crucial for preserving skin's firmness and its youthful look.

Apart from that, hyaluronic acid enhances cell proliferation (i.e cell division) speeding up wound healing and reducing the formation of scars. A must-have ingredient in your skin care regimen!
